TEC Training (GB) Limited is working in collaboration with Merton Adult Learning (MAL) to deliver ‘Skills for Jobs’. Providing high quality and sustainable adult learning programmes in order to support learners into employment, improving the social and economic wellbeing of Merton residents.

Our provision will involve delivering the following funded courses:

Personal Track Safety (PTS) Initial AC + DCCR

This is the mandatory qualification that every individual needs before they can work on or near the rail owned or managed by Network Rail. Before commencing this course, we will arrange for learners to carry out a compulsory medical and drugs and alcohol screening, which is a Network Rail requirement. The course will assess each learner’s knowledge in both Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current Conductor Rail (DCCR). There will be written assessments and practical assessments on track.

OLEC 1 – (Access Overhead Lines Construction Sites)

The aim of this course is to provide the basic knowledge required under OLEC 1 to access OLE construction sites safely and effectively for those who are directly or indirectly involved with OLE construction activities. This course is intended for candidates whose work involves accessing OLE Construction sites. 

TIC – (Track Induction Course)

This course is intended to train individuals who are new to the track and whose work may involve the maintenance, inspection or renewal of the track or other duties that may affect the stability, position or integrity of the track infrastructure. The aim is to provide the basic underpinning knowledge of permanent way construction, components and working methods associated with maintenance, renewal, repair, adjustment and dismantling of permanent way assets. 

ICI LU Assessment – (Industry Common Induction)

This Industry Common Induction (ICI - LU) is entry-level competence intended for staff that will work on London Underground managed infrastructure on behalf of TFL. The ICI provides staff with a health and safety induction for working on construction sites, rail depots and station maintenance. Network Rail has developed the ICI in partnership with ISLG (Infrastructure Safety Liaison Group) and RIAG (Rail Infrastructure Assurance Group). It covers the safety procedures and risks that are common across the rail industry, whatever the role and type of site. A Sentinel card validated for the Industry Common Induction & LU endorsement is required for access to sites. LUCAS cards are no longer valid.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

This course is ideal for anyone wishing to become an emergency first aider. This provides learners with skills and knowledge to deal with first aid situations in workplace environments for the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (NI) 1982 purposes. A certificate and card will be issued upon completion, valid for 3 years.

Working at Heights

This course is designed to train and make each individual competent when working at heights, teaching them their responsibilities about the hazards when working at heights. This course meets Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for a number of professions, including construction workers, forestry workers, electricians, steel workers, window glazers/cleaners, caretakers, and overhead rail workers. A certificate and card will be issued upon completion, valid for 3 years.

Safety Harness Use and Inspection

This course looks at safety harnesses - a vital piece of equipment used when working at heights. It is a fall-arrest system designed to reduce the impact of a fall. This course is in line with the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 and the Work at Height Regulations 2005, that both provide guidelines on the use and safety of a harness.
